Council services over Christmas and New Year

Greater Shepparton City Council will be closed for the holiday period from 3.00pm on Friday 22 December 2023 and will reopen at 9am on Tuesday 2 January 2024. For urgent matters in this time, please phone (03) 5832 9700 and follow the prompts.

Please check back regularly. This page will be updated frequently leading up to Christmas as operating dates and times are confirmed across Councils many services and facilities. 

Council Offices (Welsford Street)

Aside from the closure period above, Greater Shepparton City Council’s Customer Service phone and email service is operating as usual. We encourage you head to our Contact Council page to see our current hours of operation, or to find our phone or email contact details.

Riverlinks

Riverlinks Venues, including the Box Office, will close to the public over the Christmas and New Year break from Friday 22 December 2023 and reopen at 10am Tuesday 2 January 2024. Ticket sales are still available online during the closure period.

Greater Shepparton Visitor Centre

Open 9am to 5pm, seven days a week. Closed only on Christmas Day.

Shepparton Sports Stadium

The Shepparton Sports Stadium will be closed from 5pm on Friday 22 December 2023 and will reopen for casual use at 9am on Tuesday 2 January 2024.

Regular Stadium programming will resume on Monday 15 January 2024. If you have any queries please contact Stadium Customer Service on (03) 5832 9480.

KidsTown

KidsTown Playground is open for all of the school holidays from dawn to dusk.

KidsTown Dig In Cafe will be closed on 25 and 26 December 2023 (Christmas Day and Boxing Day), as well as 1 January 2024 (New Year's Day). On all other days normal Dig In Café operating hours will apply, 10am to 3pm seven days a week.

Aquamoves

Aquamoves will be closed on Christmas Day (Monday 25 December 2023). All other days are as follows:

Outdoor Pools – Merrigum, Mooroopna, Tatura

The Mooroopna, Tatura and Merrigum Outdoor Pools will operate across the Christmas and New Year period. Visit the Aquamoves website via the link below for hours of operation and closure dates over the holiday period. 

Rural Outdoor Pools - Hours of operation

Please note – If the temperature is forecast to be 24 degrees or below the outdoor pools will be closed. When the temperature is forecast to be 38 degrees and above the pool opening hours will be extended. The above hours are subject to change. Activities in the Park

Activities in the Park’s final activity for 2023 will be on Tuesday 23 December, with the program returning on Friday 5 January 2024. Get excited and visit the Get Mooving website for more information.

Shepparton RRC

Ardmona RRC

• Usual hours: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday 8am-4.15pm, Sunday/Public Holiday: 9am-4.15pm

Murchison RRC

• Usual hours: Wednesday and Sunday afternoons 1pm-3.45pm
• Christmas Eve: 8am-2.45pm
• CLOSED: 25 December (Christmas Day), 26 December (Boxing Day), 27 December, 31 December (New Year's Eve), 1 January (New Year’s Day), 3 January, 7 January. 
• REOPENS: 10 January 2024

Cosgrove Landfill

• Usual hours: Monday to Friday 8am-3pm, Saturday 9am-11am
• CLOSED: 25 December (Christmas Day), 1 January (New Year’s Day), 6 January.

Resale Shop

• CLOSED: From Monday 25 December 2023
• REOPENS: Monday 8 January 2024

After Hours Animal Management Service

Council offers an emergency after-hours ranger service which operates during the Christmas closure from 3pm on Friday 22 December 2023 to 9am on Tuesday 2 January 2024, to deal with animal management emergencies, including:

• livestock on Council-controlled roads
• stray dogs
• dog attacks
• injured or sick animals
• other situations deemed by an authorised officer to be an emergency.

To report an animal emergency, please contact Council on (03) 5832 9700 and press 1.

Non-emergency situations such as reports of uncontained dogs, barking dogs and wandering cats will not be attended to by our after-hours service. Please report non-emergencies by calling (03) 5832 9700 when the Council office reopens on Tuesday 2 January 2024.

The Shepparton Animal Shelter will not be able to accept any stray cats or kittens from 20 December 2023 through until 8 January 2024, unless the stray cat or kitten requires urgent veterinary assistance. Please do not set any traps for stray cats during this time.

Cat traps can be reset in the evening commencing Sunday 7 January 2023. Before setting a trap, please contact the shelter during opening hours on 03 5832 9794 to make an appointment to drop off any cats you may catch to ensure that we will be able to accommodate the cat. Please note that a cat cannot remain in a trap for more than 24 hours.

Shepparton Animal Shelter

The Shepparton Animal Shelter will close at midday on Friday 22 December 2023 and reopen at 10am Tuesday 2 January 2024. Shelter staff will continue to care for all animals at the shelter during this period.

For any shelter enquiries during this time, please call the After Hours service on (03) 5832 9700. If you have lost your animal or believe your animal may be at the Animal Shelter, please leave your details with the After-Hours service.

If your animal is at the Animal Shelter and is microchipped, a Ranger will contact you between Wednesday 27 December and Friday 29 December 2023 to arrange an appointment for collection.

If you have lost your animal, please contact Councils after hours emergency service on 03 5832 9700 and leave your details. Between 27 December and 29 December, staff will reunite lost animals with their owners by appointment only.

If you are interested in adopting animal, please complete and submit the online Animal Adoption Questionnaire. Once the shelter reopens, staff will review the adoption applications and contact applicants as soon as possible.

Long Day Care/Kindergarten/Pre-Kindergarten/Family Day Care/Occasional Care

Our Long Day Care and Family Day Care services will be closed from 1pm on Friday 22 December 2023 and will reopen Monday 8 January 2024 with children attending from Tuesday 9 January 2024.

Kindergartens and Occasional Care will close from Tuesday 19 December 2023 and reopen from Monday 29 January 2024. Please contact individual services for session close and start dates.

Maternal and Child Health Service

All centres will be closed from 3pm on Friday 22 December 2023. From Wednesday 27 December 2023 until Friday 12 January 2024, a reduced service to cater for new babies (newborn, two week, four week and eight week KAS visits only) will be available at:

• Balaclava Road MCH Centre, 205 Balaclava Road, Shepparton
• Riverside Plaza MCH Centre, Shop 21C 8025 GV Highway, Shepparton
• Mooroopna Children and Families Centre (Mooroopna Primary School), enter via Park Street, Mooroopna

Normal services will resume on Monday 15 January 2024.

Greater Shepparton Business Centre

The Greater Shepparton Business Centre will close at 3pm on Friday 22 December 2023 and reopen at 8.15am on Tuesday 2 January 2024.

Goulburn Valley Regional Library

Goulburn Valley Libraries Branch Libraries and Administration Centre will close at usual closing times on Saturday 23 December 2023. The Administration Centre will close at 5pm on Friday 22 December 2023.

Goulburn Valley Libraries, including the Mobile Library, will be closed from Sunday 24 to Tuesday 26 December 2023 inclusive, and Monday 1 January 2024. Our libraries, including the Mobile Library, will operate according to our usual opening hours on all other days.
