Council notes strong outcomes from Community Asset Committees

Monday 1st of June, 2026,
Greater Shepparton City Council has noted the financial and performance statements of its 17 Community Asset Committees for the 2024/25 financial year.
Community Asset Committees play an important role in overseeing and managing Council owned community facilities and recreation reserves across Greater Shepparton. Following each committee’s Annual General Meeting, a report outlining their performance and key achievements was presented at the May Council Meeting.
The report highlights the value of these facilities, as well as Council’s response to feedback received in previous years. Key improvements include initiatives to boost committee membership and the implementation of more streamlined processes for facility booking documentation.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the report demonstrates the significant contribution of the committees and their volunteers.
“These committees continue to deliver strong outcomes across Greater Shepparton, ensuring our community facilities remain active, accessible and well managed,” he said.
“These spaces are highly valued by residents, especially those in our smaller towns, and it is great to see continued growth in usage, along with important upgrades and improvements being delivered.”
Key achievements outlined in the report include:
Increased patronage at Lemnos Recreation Reserve and Community Centre, with the cricket club now fielding three senior and junior teams, while the tennis club also recorded a successful season.
Infrastructure upgrades at Tallygaroopna Recreation Reserve and Community Centre, including a new tennis storage shed, electronic scoreboard, outdoor fire pit improvements and a new undercover link between buildings.
There continues to be strong use of spaces at Katandra West Community Facility, with renovations completed at the old hall and construction of a centrally located toilet block, in addition to the purchase of new kitchenware.
“I would like to thank the many volunteers who generously give their time to support these facilities and ensure users have a positive experience,” Mayor, Cr Sali said.
Council remains committed to supporting Community Asset Committees and strengthening the role they play in delivering accessible and high quality facilities for the community.
