Hosted at the Arcadia Fish Hatchery, the gathering showcased an amazing array of festivals and events being hosted in Shepparton & Goulburn Valley, wonderful tourism opportunities for the region in 2024, and offered a networking opportunity to industry providers, event organisers and community members.
The event highlighted the upcoming commencement of the Goulburn Region Tourism Partnership between Greater Shepparton, Mitchell and Strathbogie Shire councils, which will provide strategic direction to support and cultivate the visitor economy in the Goulburn region.
It also highlighted some of the current tourism campaigns, such as Home for the Holidays, which offers local businesses advertising opportunities across the school holidays, encouraging community members staying home for the holiday season to go out and enjoy some of the many experiences available in the region.
Council’s Economic Development team presented the 2024 Major Events Calendar, featuring a jam-packed event year for Greater Shepparton, featuring the Shepparton Lawn Easter Tennis Tournament celebrating 100 years, the 2024 Shepparton Festival, Converge on the Goulburn, Melbourne to MOVE rally, Smoke on the Water – A Festival of Flavour, Australian National Piano Award, Out in the Open Festival and much more.
Kristen Retallick, Director Shepparton Festival, gave the attendees an inside view to the festival on its 28th edition, with this year seeing an array of arts and cultural activities, not only for Shepparton, but Murchison, Tatura, Mooroopna and Dookie.
At the conclusion of the luncheon, industry members enjoyed a guided tour of the Arcadia Fish Hatchery, experiencing this wonderful new facility first hand.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the launch of the Major Events Calendar was an exciting time for Council.
“The 2024 calendar is packed full with cultural celebrations, major sporting events and exhibitions. We know our region hosts events better than anyone and the 2024 calendar proves how rich and diverse our events scene is,” he said.
“It was great to also acknowledge the upcoming commencement of the Goulburn Region Tourism Visitor Economy Partnership which will see our region work closely with Strathbogie and Mitchell Shire to build greater visibility and awareness of our regions. There is plenty happening in the tourism and events space as we continue to develop and evolve as a major destination and we look forward to seeing many positive economic benefits for our region.”
