Big V Origin Allstar Basketball hits Greater Shepparton

Greater Shepparton has been selected to host the return of the Origin All Star Country versus City Series on the June long weekend.

The Shepparton Sports Stadium will host the matches on Saturday 11 June. The series will feature a men and women's game along with plenty of entertainment before and during the games.

Greater Shepparton Mayor Dinny Adem said "this event further enhances our reputation as the venue of choice for major basketball events following on from the recent Basketball Victoria Country under 14 championships and annual junior tournament each year in December,” Cr Adem said. "We are also grateful for the opportunity to showcase what our city has to offer and further enhance our reputation as the regional sporting and events capital of Australia.”

Greater Shepparton recently held the Victorian Country Under 14 Championships which saw 640 participants, family members and supporters converge on Greater Shepparton and inject $2.2million into the local economy.

Greater Shepparton Basketball Association Manager Tony Long said, "It's a huge honour to be given this opportunity and we are urging all basketball fans to get along to watch some of the game's most talented players,'' he said.

The June long weekend will be action packed with the Victorian Softball Masters Championships being played in Mooroopna bringing over 1000 visitors to the region, the Victorian AFL Masters Football Championship game between Vic Country and Vic Metro at Deakin Reserve and the Sled Dog Championships at Moira Park, Kialla.

“Greater Shepparton continues to work hard to bring events to the region which will see more people visiting, more jobs created keeping businesses busy and the economy strong” Cr Adem said. For more information or to purchase tickets visit www.bigv.com.au
