Celebrating Greater Shepparton City Council’s partnership with Neighbourhood Houses

Greater Shepparton City Council is proud to be partnering with the five Neighbourhood Houses in our region to celebrate Neighbourhood House Week.

Neighbourhood House Week, which runs from Monday 9 May until Sunday 15 May 2022, is a national initiative which celebrates the role of over 1,000 Neighbourhood Houses in local communities across Australia. The theme this year is ‘building resilience by bringing people together’.

Greater Shepparton is fortunate to be home to five Neighbourhood Houses, including South Shepparton Community House, North Shepparton Community and Learning Centre, Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre, Tatura Community House and Neighbourhood House Murchison. Council shares a wonderful partnership with each of these Neighbourhood Houses which are available to service all members of the community.

Council’s Manager Community Wellbeing, Melanie Holt said each Neighbourhood House offered a range of accredited courses, along with many short courses and activities such as art, cooking and computer classes.

“Each of the Neighbourhood Houses in our region played an integral role in the community’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic last year when many households were in isolation,” she said.

“Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre delivered over 2,500kg of food in August last year while the community was in lockdown, whilst the Tatura Community Centre sent out messages of support to every local household.

“Neighbourhood Houses provide a hub for community members to gather, connect and access support. South Shepparton Community Neighbourhood House also offers emergency food relief for those in need.

“These Neighbourhood Houses play an extremely important role in the community and Council is pleased to be able to recognise and celebrate their work, not only during Neighbourhood House Week but year round.”
