Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to advise construction works on the Maude Street Amenities, Plaza and Bus Interchange redevelopment works will commence in the next few days. This follows the successful completion of the demolition works undertaken late last year in preparation for these construction works.
The Public Amenities building will be the first construction activity to commence. This facility includes male and female toilets, unisex toilets, an accessible adult change room, a parent’s room with areas for breast feeding, a toilet and baby change tables.
Late last year, Council awarded Moretto Building the contract to construct the new Public Amenities building and they have already commenced set out works onsite.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure Phil Hoare anticipates these construction works will be completed within six months.
“We are aiming to have the Public Amenities building completed by mid-year which will provide the community with these much needed modern facilities in this area. The adjoining landscaped plaza area will also greatly enhance the amenity of this area and I believe the community will be pleased with the end result when works are complete,” Mr Hoare said.
A separate contract for completing the Plaza area, Streetscape and Bus Interchange works was awarded to Mawson Constructions in December and these works will also begin in the coming weeks.
“It’s great to have two local contracting firms working on this great project,” Mr Hoare said.
“These works also form part of Council’s strategy for revitalising the CBD and it’s exciting to see them up and going.
“Ultimately the works planned for this part of Maude St will see the entire length of Maude Street between Ashenden and High Street transformed into a modern, attractive and functional area.”
During the construction period works of this nature require changes to traffic flow and pedestrian access and will see heavy construction machinery in the area.
Council advises commuters to be aware of changed conditions in the area during these works and requests that people observe signage and take extra care when commuting in this area.
