Council approves funding via Heritage Grants

Greater Shepparton City Council continued its support of heritage conservation and restoration works in Greater Shepparton at the December Council Meeting, approving 11 grants under the Heritage Grants program.

The funding will go towards supporting works for significant buildings in the Heritage Overlay in Dookie, Harston, Merrigum, Mooroopna, Murchison, Shepparton, Tatura and Toolamba.

Now in its fourth year, the Heritage Grants program, delivered in association with the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee, promotes conservation works that improve the physical security or appearance of a place, while being respectful of its significance. It is the first program of its kind to be undertaken independently by a Council in regional Victoria.

Council received 47 applications between 24 July and 7 September 2020, equalling the success of the 2019/2020 round. A wide variety of conservation, restoration and reconstruction projects were considered by the judging panel.

“Council is pleased to see the growing interest in Greater Shepparton’s unique heritage, and appreciates the owners for their work to enhance, protect and conserve these significant buildings across the municipality. These buildings and places play an important role in understanding who we are as a community,” Mayor Cr Kim O’Keeffe said.

“Our thanks to all of the applicants for their efforts in submitting their applications, and congratulations to all of the successful applicants.”
