To celebrate national recycling week Greater Shepparton City Council installed two solar bins at Shepparton Sports City after obtaining a grant from Sustainability Victoria. The new bins have a solar panel that powers an internal compactor.
Director Infrastructure Phil Hoare said “it is great to have one recycling and one land fill solar bin at Shepparton Sports City. The two new bins, with the solar powered compactor can take more than eight times the normal amount of waste than a standard bin. Council also receives an alert when the bins are full ensuring we are more responsive and efficient in removing the waste.
“Council organises a number of Follow Your Waste tours throughout the year for schools and other groups. The tours are free and very popular you can register to be part of these by calling Council’s customer Service team on 58329700.
There are also a number of items that can be recycled and disposed of for free at our Resource and Recovery Centres some of these are listed below however for more information on the items that are free to dispose of please visit the greatershepparton.com.au. ”.
“Council also has a number of items for sale at the Resale shop located at the Shepparton Resource Recovery Centre on Wanganui Road. This is a great spot to find some goodies or Christmas presents. The shop is open every Weekend” said Mr Hoare.
Residents can recycle the following items in domestic quantities for free at our Shepparton, Ardmona and Murchison Resource Recovery Centres:
