Greater Shepparton City Council noted the awarding of more than $1.8 million in contracts at its February Council Meeting.
In Summary
Eight contracts were noted, totalling $1,864,796.58 for important projects across Greater Shepparton which will enhance infrastructure, improve community facilities, and support local contractors.
Among the contracts, $347,424.00 was awarded to Watters Electrical Pty Ltd for the design and construction of the Deakin Reserve Sports Oval LED Lighting Upgrade in Shepparton. The project will involve replacing the existing inefficient metal halide lighting system with an energy efficient LED sports lighting system, providing modern lighting infrastructure to support local sporting events and improve visibility for players.
Waratah Constructions (Vic) Pty Ltd was awarded $91,916.55 for the design and construction of the Lake Amaroo pedestrian bridge in Kialla. The Lake Amaroo pedestrian bridge, connecting Tandou Court and Mokoan Avenue, is being upgraded due to aging infrastructure. The project involves replacing the timber superstructure while retaining the concrete abutments and is expected to be completed in April 2025.
A total of $61,490.00 was awarded to GM & FE Ryan Pty Ltd T/A GMR Engineering Services for the RiverConnect Shared Path Design - Route 2, which will enhance connectivity between Kidstown Playground and Gemmill Swamp in Mooroopna. The Yanha Gurtji shared path will extend 2.38 kilometres, linking Shepparton and Mooroopna. Funded by the Victorian Government, it is currently in the design stage, with construction planned for the 2025-26 financial year.
Kialla Lawn and Garden Pty Ltd received two contracts, $193,310.70 for the Marlboro Drive Precinct Drainage and Wetland Landscape Stage 1 in Kialla, which aims to improve stormwater management and environmental sustainability. Landscaping, drainage, and driveway construction on Archer Road is set to commence early March, weather permitting. Completion is expected by June, with shared path closures from 560 Archer Road to Marlboro Drive.
Kialla Lawn and Garden Pty Ltd also received $163,057.40 for the design and construction of irrigation at the Wanganui Oval on Packham Street in Shepparton. In addition to the four new light towers, the oval will receive a new irrigation system to further improve the field’s playing condition. The new system will utilise existing raw water services adjacent to Wanganui Oval, with completion expected in May 2025.
Wanganui Oval will also receive new lighting, with Watters Electrical Pty Ltd awarded $259,985.00 for the project. Four new energy-efficient LED light towers with electrical upgrades will illuminate a previously unlit reserve, enabling year-round use. Partially funded by the AFL, works by Watters are set for completion in April 2025.
Mawson Constructions Pty Ltd secured a $240,088.20 contract for the North Growth Corridor Drainage Upgrade along Warrumbungle Drive in Shepparton. A 140-metre underground drainage extension in North Shepparton will replace an existing open drain, improving the residential area's system. Work will begin in late February, with completion expected by early April 2025.
Lastly, Tact Constructions Pty Ltd was awarded $507,524.73 for the structural remediation, repair, and improvement works at Katandra West Hall, ensuring the longevity and safety of this important community facility. The contract includes structural remediation and general repairs, with construction expected to commence in March/April and completion anticipated by June 2025.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, congratulated each of the tenderers on their successful contracts.
“It is always great to note the awarding of these contracts at our Council Meetings, particularly for works that enhance our community spaces, improve infrastructure, and support local businesses,” he said.
“We look forward to seeing these projects completed and the benefits they will bring to Greater Shepparton residents.”
