Greater Shepparton City Council have been made aware of an email scam being sent to Council debtors advising of false changes to bank account details.
It is understood a fake email has been sent to debtors advising them that Council’s bank account details have changed and a discount has been offered if payment is made by a certain date. The scam also provides an incorrect phone number for Council.
It is believed the breach has occurred at the receiving end of the email rather than a breach of Council’s emailing system.
Council wishes to advise that the email is a scam and the information provided is not true. If you have received the email please ignore the information and delete it. Council’s payment options, details and terms remain unchanged.
For more information contact Council on (03) 5832 9700 or email council@shepparton.vic.gov.au
