Culture Corner to take a summer break

Greater Shepparton City Council’s popular multicultural initiative Culture Corner will take a break in November due to forecast weather.

The Mall activation initiative will continue the break in the holiday period of December 2019 and January 2020, before returning bigger and better in February 2020.

Culture Corner has taken Greater Shepparton by storm in 2019, highlighting the range of diverse communities that call our region home on the first Saturday of the month in the Maude Street Mall.

Throughout the year locals were treated to traditional music, dance, food and activities by our Malaysian, Iraqi, Filipino, Syrian, Afghani and Chinese communities.

Council’s Place Manager Bonnie McIntosh said the break will be used to develop the Culture Corner concept to ensure its sustainability for the future.

“Our diverse and rich culture is one of our greatest strengths here in Greater Shepparton and we need to continue to celebrate it,” she said.

“Culture Corner is an opportunity to come together as a vibrant, cohesive society celebrating and incorporating all aspects of our multicultural communities, showcasing not only the depth of diversity in our region, but in our everyday life in the Greater Shepparton.”
