Delivery of more free purple compostable bags are rolling out now!

It is now 12 months since the initial rollout of the extra green lid bins and kitchen caddies and residents can now expect to receive their next complimentary roll of purple compostable bags between 28 October and 18 November 2016.

Residents have achieved a great result with sorting their waste. In the past year 7,200 tonnes of garden and food waste have been diverted from landfill, the equivalent of 360,000 wheelie bins. Council is proud of this achievement and provide the complimentary bags as a thank you.

Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure Steve Bowmaker has commended residents on their continuing efforts over the past year.

“This has significantly contributed to the success of composting in our municipality. It has not only saved ratepayers’ money but also benefits our local farmers who send the end product back to earth, improving the health of our soils and making our land more productive.”

“The purple compostable bags meet strict Australian standards and are specifically designed to break down in the composting process, so please only use these bags in your kitchen caddy and green lid bin. Keeping contamination low is important as it ensures we fully reap the benefits of the service.”

“I encourage residents to keep up the good work and help us work together to reduce landfill and protect our environment,” he said.

Council wishes to advise if residents do not receive their complimentary roll of bags by 18 November please contact Council’s Customer Service Team on (03) 5832 9700.
