Composting efforts not wasted!

Green lid bin contamination rates for September 2016 have decreased to 3.38 per cent, which is a drop of 0.67 per cent since August.

Greater Shepparton City Council Director of Infrastructure, Steve Bowmaker said “during September we composted and sent back to earth a total of 789 tonnes of green waste, with 27 tonnes sent to landfill.”

“We have diverted an extra 222 tonnes from landfill to compost compared to September 2015, being the equivalent of 28 kerbside trucks full of organic waste. These continuing improvements are great to see and I encourage the community to continue with their efforts.”

“Our goal is to reach a contamination rate below three percent in October.”

Greater Shepparton City Council’s Waste Education Officer is available to talk to schools, community groups and residents. Free presentations can cover various areas of waste. For further information, please contact Jean Young on (03) 5832 5207 or jean.young@shepparton.vic.gov.au.
