Greater Shepparton City Council is welcoming Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from members of the Greater Shepparton community to join the Region 2 Murray Darling Association (MDA) Board as a community representative.
The Murray Darling Association is a Local Government member-based organisation that advocates for effective representation of communities at state and federal levels in managing Basin resources. The MDA provides information, facilitates debate, and works to influence government policy on behalf of its members.
Greater Shepparton City Council is part of Region 2 of the MDA, alongside Moira Shire Council, Federation Council, and Murray Irrigation (a non-Local Government member). Meetings are held at least four times a year, either in person or online, with locations rotating between members’ Local Government Areas.
This voluntary appointment is for a two-year period. While the position is unpaid, Council will cover expenses for the community representative to attend in-person meetings and activities.
Key criteria for applicants include:
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, encouraged Greater Shepparton residents to express their interest in this vital role.
“Greater Shepparton is proud to be part of the Murray Darling Association, working collaboratively with other councils and stakeholders to ensure the sustainable management of our precious Basin resources,” he said.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for passionate and knowledgeable community members to represent our region at a state and federal level, advocating for innovative solutions and meaningful outcomes. I encourage anyone with the relevant experience and a desire to make a difference for Greater Shepparton to express their interest in this vital role.”
Community members with these qualifications and a passion for advocating on behalf of Greater Shepparton are encouraged to apply.
Expressions of Interest must be submitted by 5.00pm on Friday 25 January 2025. You can do so by clicking here.
For further information, please call Council on 5832 9700 or email council@shepparton.vic.gov.au.
