Florence Street slip lane works commence

Greater Shepparton City Council is starting road works to upgrade the Benalla Road and Florence Street intersection including a slip lane into Benalla Road from Tuesday 14 March.

  • New left turning slip lane from Florence Street into Benalla Road
  • Access to premises maintained
  • Detour along Enterprise Drive

Preliminary works took place in January 2023, with the civil works to start next week with completion expected to be May 2023.

Once the works are complete, traffic turning left from Florence Street into Benalla Road will no longer have to wait for the lights to change with the installation of the slip lane. The improved road design will allow a more efficient movement of traffic through the intersection, increasing user safety and decreasing disruptions to the flow of traffic.

Businesses along Benalla Road and Florence Street will have access to their premises during the works. There may be some temporary changes to access as the works progress, please obey all onsite directions as required.

East and West bound Benalla Road traffic will only have minimal disruptions while northbound along Florence Street will remain open for the majority of the project with any closures kept to the very minimum.

There will be no southbound traffic movements through the intersection during the works. Detours will be in place via Enterprise Drive and the Midland Highway.

Pedestrian access will be provided during the works; however access will alter as the works progress. A traffic management plan is available to help you navigate around the works.

The project is 50/50 jointly funded by Council and the Federal Government, Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program. The estimated cost of the project is $1,670,000.

More information is available on Council’s Major Projects webpage.
