The Ultimate Victorian Frisbee Championships will return to Greater Shepparton taking over the public open spaces at Mooroopna on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 August.
After the success of last year’s event and feedback from its participants, Ultimate Victoria has decided to bring its state mixed championships back to the region for the second year running.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Kim O’Keeffe said “I am excited for Greater Shepparton to host this free public event, which forms an important part of teams qualifying for the Australian Ultimate Mixed Championships later this year.”
“On behalf of Council I thank Ultimate Victoria for choosing to bring this event back to Greater Shepparton. This is a great opportunity for our region to showcase Greater Shepparton and further enhance our profile as a leading major event destination in Regional Australia.”
“The weekend will see approximately 500 players, officials and spectators spending time and money in Greater Shepparton, a great boost to our business and visitor economy sectors.”
“I encourage residents and families to get down to the Mooroopna Recreation Reserve to support this great free event in Mooroopna while seeing Frisbees being thrown all around the oval”.
“This event further highlights Shepparton’s pedigree as a sporting event capital following recent major state event attraction efforts such as the 2018 Victoria State Netball Titles and 2019 Victorian Masters Softball Championships and national event announcements such as the 2018 Basketball Australia under 14 Girls Club National Championships, 2019 BMX National Championships and Tennis Seniors Australia Teams Carnival and Australian Individual Championships.” said Cr O’Keeffe
Nine fields will be set up at oval spaces in Mooroopna to accommodate the visiting teams to take part in the two days of competition.
President Ewan Wymer said Ultimate Victoria is excited to be bringing the Victorian Mixed Ultimate Championships back to Shepparton following the success of the 2017 event.
“Our focus will be on trying to develop the sport throughout the state of Victoria and we believe that this event will go a long way towards building the culture and awareness of Ultimate Frisbee within the Greater Shepparton region.”
“We would like to thank the Greater Shepparton City Council for their tremendous support with hosting the event at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve and look forward to a fantastic display of Ultimate Frisbee over the weekend.”
