Greater Shepparton in the running for KVB awards

Greater Shepparton has been shortlisted in several categories of the Keep Victoria Beautiful Sustainable Cities Awards for 2016 which will be held at the State Library of Victoria on 15 July.

Greater Shepparton councillor Jenny Houlihan and several staff from various Council departments were able to spend a day with the Keep Victoria Beautiful judge showcasing the various projects around Shepparton.

In the individual categories GSCC is a finalist in:

  • Clean Beach/Waterways - Victoria Park Lake
  • Community Action and Leadership - Community Plans
  • Community Government Partnerships - RiverConnect
  • Environmental Sustainability - Wetlands of Victoria Park Lake
  • Protection of the Environment - Wetlands at Gemmill Swamp, Mooroopna
  • Resource Recovery and Waste Management - Refugee Garden at the Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton
  • Young Leaders - Word and Mouth

Greater Shepparton is also a finalist in the overall Sustainable City of Victoria Award competing against Geelong, Yarra, Melton and Stonnington councils.

Mayor Cr Dinny Adem says a win in any category would be terrific for Greater Shepparton. “A win in any category would raise the profile of Greater Shepparton and acknowledge the hard work put in by many people,” said Cr Adem.

“All the shortlisted projects show how committed volunteers, the community and Council can come together to achieve wonderful results for our municipality,” said Cr Adem.

The awards ceremony provides the perfect opportunity for community groups, councils and volunteers from across Victoria to celebrate their projects and stories and to recognise their collective commitment to keeping Victoria beautiful.

The Sustainable Cities Awards Ceremony is being held at the Cowen Gallery at the State Library on 15 July.
