This weekend will see a convoy of trucks heading to the MCG in Melbourne to promote the region to over 60,000 proposed attendees to the inaugural Geelong Cats V’s Essendon Country Game as part of the regular AFL season.
A brain child of Kevin Sheedy, the game will become an annual blockbuster game between the two teams to celebrate and acknowledge the contribution of regional communities to the game of AFL and Australian Society.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Sustainable Development, Johann Rajaratnam said it was a fantastic opportunity to bring the country to the city.
“Greater Shepparton Tourism and Events staff will be taking a dozen of our iconic MooovingArt cows, along with local produce and marketing collateral to this weekend’s game and festival,” said Mr Rajaratnam. “It’s a great opportunity to promote the virtues of our amazing region, regional Victoria and all it has to offer.”
The festival will include a farmers market on site between Gates 2 & 3 with other country style entertainment including sheep shearing, whip cracking, an animal farm, trucks, tractors, country music and other activities. Players will also be hosted on the stage from 12.00 noon.
The Greater Shepparton stall will feature:
The Powercor Country Program Festival market will commence at 10.30 and will run until 2.30.
