Greater Shepparton Women's Charter Women's Award Nominations Open

Nominations are open to anyone who identifies as a woman or gender non-binary person. Forms and further information about the Greater Shepparton Women’s Award can be found at https://greatershepparton.com.au/community/neighbourhoods/gswcac/gswcac-award

Nominations are judged on:

How the nominee has represented the values of the Greater Shepparton Women’s Charter of Gender Equity, Diversity and Active Citizenship in their involvement within the Greater Shepparton community
How the nominee contributed to improving opportunities and empowering women within Greater Shepparton
Why the nominee’s actions have made a difference for women and girls in Greater Shepparton

Presented as part of the International Women’s Day celebrations held on 8 March 2023, the Women’s Award celebrates women whose stories, contributions and actions have inspired and encouraged others to reach their goals however big or small.

Greater Shepparton City Council representative on the Women’s Charter Advisory Committee, Councillor Sam Spinks said the award recognises the incredible achievements of women within our community.

“This is a great opportunity to nominate the person you know that will go the extra mile, and to give recognition for their positive impacts to the community. We have heard many stories of women and the positive impacts that they have had throughout our community.”

“Our community has been brought together and lead by many inspirational women during COVID-19 and the more recent floods” said Cr Spinks.

Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Cr Shane Sali said “You can nominate your family members, colleagues and friends for the award, and you are not limited to one nomination, you may know many women that deserve recognition. It is easy to do and forms are available online or at our Council offices.”

Arti Shah was the 2022 Women’s Award recipient and was chosen due to her incredible work involving bringing the community together, some of Arti’s achievements include:

Founding the Human Book Club, a community connections program held monthly at the Shepparton Library.
Through the pandemic, Arti adapted the Human Book Club and created Human Chapters, another initiative she has undertaken, linking in with participants through Facebook, podcasts and other platforms.
Arti has also created a volunteer program, the Communicate with Confidence Program, to help the CALD community build their skills, through St Paul’s African House.

The Greater Shepparton Women’s Charter is a group of passionate Women from a variety of backgrounds who are committed to the advancement and recognition of women within the Greater Shepparton region. The Charter recognises the need to increase women’s participation in key decision making forums in the community and in democratic governance.
