Recently 44 people attended an apprenticeship open day. They participated in activities and assessments designed to enlighten them on what the Transport and Road Reserves team do and also as means of assessing their suitability for an apprenticeship.
The Transport and Road Reserves team has identified that over the next five years around 50 per cent of the outdoor works crews will be retiring. This is a big challenge, as so much knowledge and experience will leave the organisation over a relatively short period. As part of our succession planning strategy, five new apprenticeships will be offered.
The apprenticeships will provide an exciting opportunity for our experienced employees to transfer their knowledge and skills to the next generation of civil workers. It also means that Council will be in a sound position to provide infrastructure services to our community into the future.
