If it GROWS, it GOES in #YourGreenBin

"Snappa" will be returning to our screens in June to remind Greater Shepparton residents only orgainic garden clippings and kitchen scraps go in the green lid bin.

So far in 2016, green waste contamination rates have been poor. May saw 5.72% of green lid bins containing non organic rubbish. February's contamination rate of 2.54% has been the lowest result this year, and still too high.

When you put the wrong things in your green lid bin, it contaminates the entire truck load, and then none of the waste can be recycled. It has to be taken to the landfill, which makes your rates more expensive, and is bad for the environment.

The full organics green waste service includes all organic material including;

  • Fruit and vegetable scraps
  • Meat scraps & bones
  • Fish and seafood (incl. shells)
  • Dairy products – cheese, yoghurt and butter
  • Teabags and coffee grounds
  • Tissues and napkins
  • Hair
  • Lawn clippings
  • Garden prunings (incl. weeds and rose trimmings)
  • Twigs and branches under 100mm in diameter
  • Animal droppings

All other materials can NOT, including:

  • Garbage
  • Plastic bags and plant pots
  • Paper, cardboard and plastics
  • Glass and metal
  • Soil and stone
  • Nappies

Greater Shepparton City Council encourages the community to take time and make the effort to ensure the right waste goes in the correct bin, saving money now and our planet in the future.
