Greater Shepparton City Council is welcoming nominations from individuals interested in joining the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee.
In Summary
Council is inviting nominations for six community representative positions on the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee.
Community representatives serve a two-year term and provide input on cultural heritage matters alongside member organisations.
Appointments will commence in March 2026 and conclude in April 2028; nominations close at 5pm on Friday 6 February 2026.
Nomination forms are available online or at Council’s offices and can be submitted electronically or in hard copy.
The Heritage Advisory Committee advises Council on cultural heritage matters across Greater Shepparton.
The Committee has representatives from 10 member organisations and Council. It also has six community representative positions for members of the community who are unaffiliated with the historical groups or societies nominated to the Committee. Community representative positions are appointed for a two-year term.
The community representative positions on the Committee became vacant on 1 December 2025 and Council is currently seeking members of all ages and backgrounds to fill these roles. These appointments will begin in March 2026 and conclude in April 2028.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, encouraged people with an interest in heritage issues across Greater Shepparton to apply.
“I encourage Greater Shepparton locals who may have an interest in the region’s heritage to put their hands up for one of the community representative positions,” he said.
“It is a fantastic opportunity to sit on this committee and have a say in the planning and execution of a number of successful community events, including the Heritage Open Days and the Cultural Heritage Awards.”
Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee Councillor Representative, Cr Fern Summer, said becoming a committee member was a great opportunity to ensure the region’s history was preserved for future generations.
“This is an opportunity for passionate community members to have a real say in how we recognise, protect, and celebrate the heritage that makes Greater Shepparton unique,” she said.
“Whether you’re a long‑time resident, a history enthusiast, or someone with professional expertise, your contribution can make a meaningful difference.”
Committee meetings are held on the first Monday of every month or at other times as determined by members. Anyone with an interest in cultural heritage matters is encouraged to apply.
Nomination forms can be lodged electronically or by hard copy and are available on our website here or at our 90 Welsford Street Shepparton offices.
Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 6 February 2026.
For more information or to register your interest in joining the Committee, please contact Council’s Team Leader Strategic Planning via phone on 5832 9700 or via email at council@shepparton.vic.gov.au
