LOCAL TRAFFIC ADVICE - Toolamba Bridge and Locky’s Bridge Riverview Drive

A level two inspection was carried out on the Toolamba Bridge earlier this week with the inspection finding that significant work would be needed to bring the bridge to a safe condition for use.

Following the inspection of the Toolamba Bridge last week, inspections were also carried out on all timber bridges. This inspection found damage to Locky’s Bridge, on Riverview Drive Kialla, which would also require work to be carried out.

Greater Shepparton City Council’s Director Infrastructure Steve Bowmaker said the Toolamba Bridge would need to be closed for an extended period of time to allow for contractors to be appointed and the works to be carried out.

“We are currently assessing the best course of action for the Toolamba Bridge, which could include repairing the damage or replacing the bridge completely,” Mr Bowmaker said.

“In terms of Locky’s Bridge, we are also determining the best course of action, which could include replacing the bridge or installing culverts. Locky’s Bridge also will remain closed for an extended period in the interim.

“I’d also like to remind people of the detour in place to Toolamba and that motorists will need to travel via Shepparton/Mooroopna or Murchison.

“I would urge all road users to adhere to the road and bridge closure signs to avoid further damage to the bridges and their surrounds.”

Council conducts a level two inspection of all bridges on a three year cycle, with the last inspections carried out in 2014 and one to be carried out in the 16/17 financial year.
