Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to advise that works on Maude Street, between Vaughan and Rowe Streets, have been completed with the road now re-opened to motorists.
Works on this stretch of road commenced in April with their completion marking an important milestone in the Maude Street Revitalisation Project. Construction has now moved further north along Maude Street, between Rowe and High Streets, with this section of road currently closed to allow the remaining construction to be completed.
The works between Vaughan and Rowe Streets saw the removal of the previous bus interchange to make way for the new site along Maude Street, between Vaughan and Ashenden Streets. This new bus interchange will be operational from Monday 2 August.
The upgrade works also involved the removal of existing pavement and footpath, storm water drainage upgrades, new pedestrian crossings, lighting upgrades, concrete works, installation of street furniture, parallel car parking bays and landscaping.
Council Acting Director Infrastructure Tim Zak said he was extremely pleased to see this section of work completed and open to traffic once again.
“It is fantastic to see works progressing well along Maude Street as scheduled, and we are pleased that this section of road is now reopened,” he said.
“These upgrade works have made a huge difference to the area, improving the streetscape and accessibility for businesses, motorists and pedestrians. Greater Shepparton residents will continue to see works occurring along Maude Street, with the final stage between Vaughan and High Streets well underway.”
Previous works in the area involved the removal of the roundabout at the intersection of Maude and Vaughan Streets to create a signalised intersection. These works were completed in April.
Mr Zak said Council had been working closely with businesses along Maude Street during each stage of works to ensure they were well informed.
“I remind the community that businesses along Maude Street are still open and accessible during these upgrade works,” he said.
“Changes to traffic and pedestrian access have occurred however parking is still available in and along sections of Maude Street and the Rowe Street carpark. Council are excited to see the final stage of works completed over the next few months and the overall design concept come to life.”
