Greater Shepparton City Council noted the allocation of more than $60,000 in funding to local sporting clubs as part of the Our Sporting Future funding grant program at the November Council Meeting.
In total, $62,617.00 was allocated to nine sporting clubs as part of the Round One 2021/2022 program.
Now in its 12th year, the program aims to assist sporting clubs with the implementation of small to medium sized infrastructure development projects to help improve their facilities. The funding also assists with development programs for new and developing sporting organisations throughout Greater Shepparton.
Round One 2021/2022 was the first opportunity for clubs to apply for the new categories of Women and Girls and Youth Participation, with the new categories showing positive uptake. Council received a total of 16 applications across the five categories of Majors, Minors, Sports Aid, Women and Girls, and Youth Participation.
Mayor Cr Kim O’Keeffe thanked each of the sporting clubs who submitted an application and showed interest in the new categories aimed to increase women, girls and youth participation on local sporting fields.
“Council understands the true importance of community sport and participation within our region, with many local programs working to bring people together from all walks of life,” she said.
“The Our Sporting Future grant program helps to fund community sporting initiatives to ensure their continued success into the future.
“Thank you to each of the sporting clubs who applied for the funding program, and I offer my congratulations to the nine successful applicants.”
Applications for Our Sporting Future Round Two 2021/2022 opens on Monday 6 December 2021. For more information about the grant program visit council's Community Grants Page
