New ‘Touch N Go’ parking trial rolling out in Shepparton CBD

Friday 18th of July, 2025,
Greater Shepparton City Council is trialling a new way to pay for parking in the Shepparton CBD, with 15 ‘Touch N Go’ machines to be installed across key locations from Friday 18 July 2025.
In Summary
Council is trialling 15 new ‘Touch N Go’ parking machines in key Shepparton CBD locations from Friday 18 July 2025, offering a modern, smartphone-friendly payment option.
The trial aims to simplify the parking experience using NFC and QR code technology linked to the PayStay app or guest site.
To use the Touch N Go virtual meters, simply tap your smart phone to pay for parking and follow the prompts. Alternatively, you can scan the QR code and follow the prompts on your mobile phone.
The trial comes at no cost to Council or the community, and will help assess usability, reliability and community feedback.
The Touch N Go trial is being delivered in partnership with parking technology provider Orikan and will offer an alternative payment method for users parking in ticketed areas. The trial aims to simplify the parking experience, with a touch-and-go system that is convenient and smartphone friendly.
The 15 new machines will be placed in high-traffic CBD areas, including:
Fryers Street (between Wyndham and Corio Street) – 3 machines
Corio Street (between Edward and High Street) – 3 machines
Maude Street (between Nixon and Vaughan Street, including the new Maude Street Precinct) – 6 machines
High Street (between Wyndham and Corio Street) – 3 machines
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the trial is part of Council’s ongoing efforts to improve the way residents and visitors interact with the city centre.
“We’re excited to be trialling the new Touch N Go parking system to make it easier for people to get in, park and enjoy all that our CBD has to offer,” he said.
“This trial is completely free for Council and comes at no cost to the community. It is about testing a new approach to deliver a more modern, convenient, and user-friendly experience.”
To use the Touch N Go virtual meters, simply tap your smart phone to pay for parking and follow the prompts. Alternatively, you can scan the QR code and follow the prompts on your mobile phone. The virtual meters use NFC (near field communication) technology, which you may already use when you ‘tap’ your phone to pay for something at a checkout instead of inserting or swiping your bank card.
When you tap your phone or scan the QR code, PayStay will automatically open for you. If you are a registered PayStay app user, the PayStay app will open. If you do not have the app, the PayStay Guest website will open instead where you can follow the simple prompts to activate a one off PayStay session.
The trial period will be monitored closely to assess usability, reliability and community uptake. Council encourages residents, businesses and visitors to give the new system a try and share their experiences.
