Nominations open for 2016 Victorian Honour Roll of Women

The Greater Shepparton Women’s Charter Alliance Advisory Committee (GSWCACC) is encouraging members of the Greater Shepparton community to nominate inspirational women for the 2016 Victorian Honour Roll of Women.

The Victorian Honour Roll of Women is a Victorian Government initiative that aims to recognise and celebrate the great achievements of inspirational women in the community.

Previous Victorian Honour Roll of Women inductees from the local area include:

  • Mary Atkinson (deceased) – Leader in Aboriginal education
  • Frances Mathyssen – Leader in Indigenous community affairs
  • Vicki Mitsos – Ethnic communities support
  • Margo Koskelainen – Batting for women’s sport (Softball)
  • Rien Silverstein – Supporter of rural women

GSWCAAC Charter Champion Councillor Dinny Adem believes it would be great to see more women from the local community nominated.

“The Greater Shepparton community has many women who have made a real difference and who are inspirational in their efforts to contribute to the wider community,” said Cr Adem.

“The Victorian Honour Roll for Women is a great way to acknowledge the achievements of women who have made a tangible contribution,” said Cr Adem.

The Greater Shepparton Women’s Charter Alliance Advisory Committee (GSWCAAC) is a community advisory committee of the Greater Shepparton City Council, and is part of a broader network of Local Government Area (LGA) advisory committees across the state that are guided and informed by the Victorian Local Government Women’s Charter.

The GSWCAAC is made up of volunteers and, with Council support, aims to increase women’s participation in key decision making forums in the community and in democratic governance. The GSWCAAC supports three main principles: Gender Equity, Diversity, and Active Citizenship.
