Recently Council hosted 2 Open Days for the newly created roles of Civil Construction Apprenticeship targeted specifically towards Indigenous people.
These are the first roles created under the Aboriginal Employment Framework which aims to increase and encourage the employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders across Greater Shepparton City Council.
The recent Workforce Diversity Survey revealed only 3 Indigenous Australians currently identified as being employed by Greater Shepparton City Council.
Nearly 40 applications were received for the Open Day which commenced with a Welcome to Country.
Following an OHS briefing applicants were required to perform a job related task at several work stations, where they received a score based on their attitude, confidence and willingness to get involved.
Applicants also attended a workshop providing guidance on how to apply for the role within Council.
The feedback received from both applicants and staff who participated in the day was overwhelmingly positive and we look forward to seeing our applicants move to the next stage of the recruitment process.
