RiverConnect Strategic Plan set to be launched

The RiverConnect Strategic Plan 2023-2028 will be launched on 30 March in partnership with Greater Shepparton City Council and Goulburn Broken Management Catchment Authority. The plan refreshes the focus of the program, reflecting the holistic nature of river systems, and the interconnected nature of the community's relationship with local waterways.

The Strategic Plan is RiverConnect’s vision for people, rivers and nature caring for each other, and provides collaborative opportunities to foster the community’s love, respect and connection to the river environment.

Key focus areas identified in the plan include:

  • Continuing learnings about the river environment including engaging our diverse community
  • Developing links between schools to create opportunities for river activities
  • Collaborating with the health sector to share benefits of nature for health and wellbeing
  • Nurturing stewardship culture by supporting environmental volunteers and facilitating opportunities to care
  • Sharing the potential of our river environment through creative methods
  • Supporting partner efforts and relationships to collectively care for the river environment.

Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Shane Sali, said the Strategic Plan will provide RiverConnect with a focus on achieving key priorities within the Greater Shepparton region.

“I would like to thank everyone who has contributed and worked hard on the plan, enabling RiverConnect to continue working alongside community and partners to improve our community’s relationship with the river and nature. This plan will also assist with applications for funding grants offered by State and Federal Governments.”

RiverConnect is a community project in partnership with Greater Shepparton City Council, Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, Department of Education and Training, Department of Environment, Energy and Climate Action, Goulburn Murray Landcare Network, Goulburn Valley Environment Group, Greater Shepp Young Champions, Parks Victoria, Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative, Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation and community representatives.
