The Board of Shepparton Art Museum Limited is seeking expressions of interest from individuals to join the Shepparton Art Museum Limited Board.
Shepparton Art Museum Limited has been established as a company limited by guarantee to operate the Shepparton Art Museum as a public art museum.
The Board will comprise nine (9) Company Directors and will be a skills-based Board. There will be two Greater Shepparton City Council nominated positions, and one SAM Foundation representative. Shepparton Art Museum Limited is seeking six community members for the Board.
The Board is keen to attract representation from the financial, legal, marketing/tourism, art museum management sectors along with local Aboriginals, professional artists, and individuals with trust/philanthropic interests or experience in commercial operations, governance experience, or business leadership. There will be a diversity of skills, culture, gender, age, ethnicity, backgrounds and world views within the Board.
There is an initial two to three year term with a maximum of three terms (a maximum of nine years in total).
The new SAM will operate as a not-for-profit, charitable organisation and the Board positions are voluntary.
Current Director and Company Secretary Mr Chris Teitzel said “This is a great opportunity for skilled, experienced and knowledgeable people to guide the future direction of the new Shepparton Art Museum.”
“We encourage those with a connection to Shepparton to apply for membership as we are keen to attract not only skilled Directors but those with a passion for our region.”
The Board will direct the new Shepparton Art Museum to provide an inspiring, community hub for locals to meet and socialise. The Museum aims to present exemplary contemporary, international exhibitions of relevance to the public and particularly the region’s diverse Aboriginal and multi-cultural communities; and provide opportunities for members of the public to learn, be challenged, think about, and emotionally engage with art.
The new SAM will provide access to the art collections and significant ceramics collection in unique and engaging ways. It will also present Aboriginal art and support local Aboriginal artists to provide complementary programs and support local artists in the development and presentation of their art and the creation of empowering experiences.
Expressions of interest are sought from individuals passionate about operating the Shepparton Art Museum, through the new Company Limited by Guarantee Board structure. EOIs close on Friday 31 August 2018 and need to be submitted on the application form which can be found at greatershepparton.com.au http://greatershepparton.com.au/sam-ltd-call-for-board-directors
