Shepparton to host International Squash Championships

Greater Shepparton is playing host to the inaugural Shepparton International Squash Championships from 21 to 24 August in conjunction with the Goulburn Valley Squash Club and in partnership with Squash and Racquetball Victoria.

The International Squash Championships are yet another major sporting drawcard for the Shepparton region which has already hosted many major sporting events this year and is further cementing its position as a leading Victorian sporting destination.

“This is another fantastic opportunity for the Greater Shepparton region and we are excited to showcase another aspect of our diverse sporting culture with this event,” Mayor Jenny Houlihan said.

“We are proud to offer locals access to these world class events as well as showcasing Shepparton to interstate and international visitors,” she said.

The event’s highly competitive field will bring one of the sport’s most prolific winners, Mike Corren, to Shepparton to play for his 51st Professional Squash Association title.

The Men’s Open will see participants come from 11 different countries to compete in the PSA’s Challenger 5 title. There will be a full draw of 32 following on from a 16 draw qualifying round.

There will also be a Women’s Open that will run on the Saturday and Sunday alongside the graded events which are open to local players of all abilities, all up which will have around 70-80 participants.

The event will be held at the Shepparton Squash Courts on Archer Street and entry is free.

The Shepparton International main draw will commence on Thursday 21 August from 5.30pm, 2nd round Friday 22 August from 12noon with quarterfinals at 6.00pm, semi-finals on Saturday 23rd at 4.00pm and the finals held on Sunday 24th August from 3.00pm.
