Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to advise Stage Two of the Maude Street Bus Interchange and Plaza redevelopment works will begin in the next few days.
Stage Two includes construction of the plaza area, the bus interchange and streetscape works along Maude Street between Vaughan and Ashenden Street. These works are adjacent to the new public amenities facility currently being constructed.
Local contractors, Mawson Constructions, were awarded the contract by Council and are due to commence works on site within the next week.
During construction residents can expect to see temporary fencing erected, demolition of existing assets such as the kerbs, footpaths and street lighting to make way for the eight bay bus interchange which will operate on both sides of Maude Street.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure Phil Hoare said the works were to support the ongoing redevelopment of the Central Business District.
“Council has initiated a number of projects aimed towards activating our CBD and the new bus interchange will improve safety for pedestrians, public transport and general road users,” Mr Hoare said.
“The new location of the bus interchange will be situated closer to the public amenities facility (Stage One) and plaza area which will enhance the features and functionality of the area as well as being more user friendly for public transport users.”
The creation of an eight bay bus interchange will provide Shepparton with a central transport hub with direct access to the CBD, train station and other major destinations within Greater Shepparton.
Construction works for the public amenities building are continuing and on-track for completion in June. The bus interchange and plaza are due for completion in October 2019.
Council advises commuters to be aware of changes to the traffic flow and pedestrian access and observe any road signage in the area. Please take care while travelling and leave a little bit earlier to allow for any delays due to the works.
