RiverConnect and Turtles Australia are excited to present Turtle Talk, a free family-friendly, interactive event at Cussen Park, Tatura these school holidays.
The event running from 9.00am to 11.00am on Tuesday 14 January 2025, will be an opportunity to learn about the fascinating freshwater turtles inhabiting our local waterways. Presented by experts from Turtles Australia, attendees will have the rare chance to see turtles up close and gain insights into their lives and habitats.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, highlighted the importance of this initiative.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for families to connect with nature and learn more about the unique wildlife in our region. We are proud to support such engaging, educational activities that bring our community together and foster appreciation for our environment,” he said.
RiverConnect Education Officer, Emily Lange, encouraged the community to come along.
“Come along and learn about the freshwater turtles that live in our local waterways. We’re lucky to have the Eastern Long-necked turtle, Broad Shelled turtle and Murray Short-necked turtle.”
“The Broad Shelled turtle, or Bayadherra, is also the totem species for the Yorta Yorta People,” she said.
The Turtle Talk event is proudly brought to the community by RiverConnect as part of the Activities in the Park program, which is jointly funded by Greater Shepparton City Council and the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority.
