Upgrade to Margaret Street Stormwater Pump Station in Tatura set to get underway

Greater Shepparton City Council awarded the contract for the Margaret Street Stormwater Pump Station Upgrade to a local contractor for the lump sum of $2,218,971.70, at the December Council Meeting on Tuesday.

The Margaret Street Pump Station is Tatura’s most critical stormwater asset, servicing approximately 90 per cent of the township’s stormwater needs. The upgrade is vital due to electrical non-compliance and failures in the current infrastructure.

Once completed, the works will enhance reliability, improve functionality, and increase flow capacity, ensuring the pump station meets the community’s needs into the future.

The project will involve constructing a modern, compliant electrical switch room, installing new pumps and pipework including upstream Gross Pollutant Traps to reduce debris in stormwater systems.

Deputy Mayor, Councillor Anthony Brophy, highlighted the significance of this project for Tatura.

"This upgrade to the Margaret Street Pump Station is a major step forward in protecting Tatura’s homes and businesses from the impacts of flooding, while also future-proofing essential infrastructure for generations to come,” he said.

“Council is pleased to see this important project get underway to directly improve the safety and resilience of our community. This essential infrastructure upgrade will benefit both Tatura residents and the environment by improving stormwater management and mitigating future risks.”

Works are set to begin shortly and will be carried out under a design and construct model to ensure a smooth and efficient process.
