The Greater Shepparton Visitor Information Centre will officially reopen in its new Nixon Street location on Friday 18 October.
The site at 33 Nixon Street, formerly the home of ‘Kiddie Culture' was chosen for its close proximity to the CBD, SAM, the Queen's Gardens and the airport bus stop, along with the availability of accessible facilities and suitable parking including long vehicle parking and a number of short term free parks to accommodate visitors seeking information on things to do and see in the region.
Greater Shepparton Mayor Jenny Houlihan said it was exciting for the VIC to have a new, medium term home.
"The Visitor Information Centre provides a valuable service to both our local residents and visitors alike so it is important that it is located centrally and in an accessible location," Cr Houlihan said.
"New signage will be installed throughout town directing people to the VIC and an additional long vehicle bay has been installed outside the centre to accommodate visitors travelling with caravans. Another feature is the specially commissioned art work by local artist ‘Tank'.
"We'd like to thank our visitors, volunteers, the tourism industry and operators and Tourism Greater Shepparton for their patience and support during this time. We understand the important role the Visitor Centre plays in influencing the travel patterns and length of stay of visitors to the region".
The previous VIC site was destroyed by fire in May this year and will be demolished in the coming weeks. Planning has commenced for a new long term Visitor Centre.
The Visitor Information Centre is located at 33 Nixon Street (opposite the Queen's Gardens). Locals and visitors alike are invited to check out the new centre from Friday.
The Greater Shepparton Visitor Information Centre is proudly provided by Greater Shepparton City Council.
