Watt Road Bridge project update

Works on the Watt Road Bridge began on Monday 13 July and has progressed significantly over the last three weeks.

The removal of asphalt and detailed inspection of the decking has been completed and the replacement of the decking timber and cross beams is progressing well.

The detailed inspection of the timber which was previously covered by asphalt identified that more of the bridge deck required replacement than was originally planned and this will prolong the works period by two weeks. The works are now scheduled to be complete by 21 August, 2020.

Council is also currently seeking grant funding to complete the next level of reinforcement works on the structure which would include stabilisation and reinforcement of the piers that support the bridge and upgrade of the kerb and guardrail on the bridge.

All of these works are focused on ensuring that the bridge continues to be able to service the community safely whilst planning is underway for a replacement crossing.
