We are at Cat-pacity! Adopt a Cat this April and find your purr-fect match

Tuesday 31st of March, 2026,
Greater Shepparton City Council is encouraging community members to open their hearts and homes this April to one of the many cats and kittens waiting at the Shepparton Animal Shelter.
With more than 60 cats and kittens currently available for adoption and the school holidays approaching, there has never been a better time to welcome a furry companion into your home.
The Animal Shelter is currently at cat-pacity and to help more cats find their forever homes, adoption fees have been reduced to just $50 from 1 April to 30 April 2026, for cats over 12 months of age. Kittens remain full price.
Council’s Manager Environment, Sharon Terry, encouraged community members looking to add a new member to the family to consider adopting a cat or kitten.
“Cats make wonderful companions for people of all ages. It is important to remember that adopting a pet is a lifelong commitment requiring care and responsibility,” she said.
“Adopting not only changes the life of the cat you adopt, it also helps the Shelter to have more space to receive animals in need.”
All cats have been vet checked, desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, treated for worms and fleas and are ready to take home. Animal Shelter staff encourage community members to visit Council’s website to view the available cats online and complete the online pet adoption questionnaire before attending the Animal Shelter.
A suitable pet carrier is required when taking your new family member home. Carriers are available for purchase at the Shelter if needed.
