We wanted to make it easier to find what you're looking for, and to have the website work great regardless of whether you're using a computer, a mobile phone or a tablet.
For this new website, we focussed on three main priorities:
1. Support for mobile devices.
42% of all traffic to Council’s website comes from a mobile device.
The new Council website was built using a relatively new technique called Responsive Web Design (RWD). This means that the design and layout of the website will automatically adapt and respond to the size of the device on which it is viewed, whether it’s a desktop PC with a mouse, or a tablet (eg. iPad) or a smartphone with a touch-screen.
The main benefit of RWD is that it removes the requirement to build and maintain a separate website for each type of device. The new Council website works great from wherever it is accessed.
2. Easier to find information
Visitors to our website usually have a desired task to complete.
The content on the Council website has been revised and restructured under a new content strategy. This strategy places a focus on helping you to do what you need to do and find the information you require.
This means organising links and navigation in order of what's important to you, our residents. We're also using simpler language, and removing irrelevant and out-dated information. The number of pages on the new Council website has been reduced by about 30%.
A new unified development platform
Council’s need for effective and efficient website management has outgrown its current system.
This is the first major redevelopment of Council’s website in almost 10 years. A new development platform has been developed entirely in-house, allowing us to take advantage of the latest web technologies.
This new system empowers Council staff to deliver the most relevant and up-to-date information, forms, and other exciting online services for our residents for years to come.
Let us know what you think over on our Contact Us page! We're open to feedback and will be continually working to improve our online services.
