Greater Shepparton’s 3630 Concrete Jungle Skate Comp will take over the Shepparton Skate Park again in 2019.
Greater Shepparton City Council and Headspace Shepparton have worked with the Shepparton Skate Park Riders Young Adults Committee (SSPRYAC) and pro athlete skateboard rider and Olympics Skateboard panel member Renton Millar to bring the competition to life for the past three years, showcasing the community’s local skating talent.
The SSPRYAC is a group of 10 local young adults who are passionate about and dedicated to improving and promoting the Shepparton Skate Park, as well as bringing new and improved competitions to the area.
Greater Shepparton City Council Youth Development Officer, Jessica Bacchetto, said the competition is improving and growing each year.
“Every year we aim to run programs that appeal to all different groups of young people within our community,” she said.
“The 3630 Concrete Jungle event has been running for three years and we are so lucky to have a group of young and engaged adults who utilise the Shepparton Skate Park and are focused on wanting to make it a better space for the community.”
Committee member Joel Walsh said the skate park has plenty of potential.
“We have so many talented riders, all we need is good competition and opportunities for the riders to show their talent and potentially make a career out of it.”
All young people in the region are encouraged to register on the day, with riders aged under 18 required to have a wavier signed by a parent.
Pro skateboard rider Renton Millar said he can’t wait be involved.
“I'm stoked to be working with the Shepparton Skate Park Committee on the 2019 3630 Concrete Jungle competition, it’s a great skate park and it will be a great vibe on the day. I'm really looking forward to it,” he said.
The open heats for Skate, BMX and Scoot will be 1st Prize of $500 Cash, with additional prizes for 2nd, 3rd.
