Final reminder to register your pet before 10 April
Posted on
Thursday 2nd of April, 2026,
Greater Shepparton City Council is reminding residents there is one week left to register their cats and dogs, with registrations due by Friday 10 April 2026.
Pet registration is a legal requirement for all cats and dogs over three months of age and helps ensure lost animals can be quickly reunited with their owners. Registration is free for pets under six months of age.
Registering your pet is one of the most effective ways to ensure they can be safely returned home if they become lost. Registration fees also support Council to deliver a wide range of animal management services, including the Shepparton Animal Shelter, Animal Rangers, and the investigation and prosecution of serious animal-related offences such as dog attacks, animal cruelty and illegal dog or cat breeding.
Council’s Director Sustainable Development, Geraldine Christou, said registering pets plays an important role in keeping them and the community safe.
“With pet registrations closing on Friday 10 April, we’re reminding residents there is only a short time left to make sure their cats and dogs are registered,” she said.
“Pet registration helps reunite lost animals with their families and supports the ongoing work that protects animal welfare and community safety across Greater Shepparton.”
Once a registration form is finalised, an identification tag will be issued, which is small and can be easily attached to a pet’s collar without discomfort.
