Greater Shepparton is one of the two regional locations where the Beach Netball competitions will take place. Lakes Entrance hosted the event in January followed by Shepparton in February and then in Port Campbell in March.
Beach Netball is an extension to the traditional game of netball, with the same rules and regulations, the exception being that participants aren’t required to wear shoes and the game is played on a half-court marked out in the sand. Netballers will be on court all weekend.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Cr Kim O’Keeffe said she was excited that Shepparton will host another great sporting event this weekend.
“I am sure many teams that have registered to play will use beach netball to serve as training for the up and coming netball season. Beach netball can be played by all-female or mixed teams, we have many local teams that have registered as well as many from out of town.
“Hosting this event continues our tradition of hosting high profile events and will give netball enthusiasts the opportunity to watch a different format of netball. I would also like to remind residents it is free for spectators to attend both days, so pop on down to see some great netball action”.
“Council continues to attract the biggest and best events to Greater Shepparton boosting employment, tourism, entertainment and liveability for our community. Our teams are working hard creating jobs, keeping businesses busy and the economy strong.” said Cr O’Keeffe.
