Greater Shepparton City Council approved the recommendation to provide $1.375M (Including GST) of financial support to the Museum of Vehicle Evolution, or MOVE, project at the July Ordinary Council Meeting.
At the February Ordinary Council Meeting on 26 February 2019, it was resolved that Council approve the business case and provide financial support to the project, subject to MOVE securing funding from the Victorian Government, Federal Government and private industry.
As project planning for the new MOVE evolved to include two additional components - the Thomson’s clothing collection and Maskell’s Customs and Classics - a request was made to Council that the Council funding no longer be contingent on the Victorian Government contribution to the project, as the staging of the project and make-up of financial contributions has changed.
Councillors subsequently resolved to provide financial support without the contingency on State funding on Tuesday night, subject to the project meeting all legal and planning requirements.
The $6.25M project will expand on the current Shepparton Motor Museum footprint with an additional 10,000 square metres of exhibition space to showcase curated displays of transport related vehicles and memorabilia, the history of the food bowl of the Goulburn Valley and much more.
The project is anticipated to have an annual economic output of $5.7M from the increased visitation, and is anticipated to have a total economic impact of $13.1M on the Greater Shepparton region during construction. It is anticipated MOVE will support 14 direct and 22 indirect jobs during construction.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keeffe said Council was proud to support MOVE.
“The Goulburn Valley has a long history of transport and movement,” she said.
“Greater Shepparton is a region of significant economic and social importance to the state and is a natural hub for road transport with nearly one-in-four of all of Victorian trucks registered here.
“The need to transport the region’s premium produce to the markets of the world has meant that Shepparton has flourished through transportation.”
