Youth SPOTS for small towns

Youth SPOTS were an outcome of the Small Town Youth Recreation Spaces Strategy in 2016. This strategy outlined the need for social recreation hubs for young people in small towns who often have to travel significant distances to larger regional centres to experience similar amenities.

This led to the SPOTS approach focusing on four key principles:

  • Social (areas to hang out, sheltered, safe).
  • Playful (to play/participate in recreation, art, music etc)
  • Open (visible, safe and accessible)
  • Township (central, close to shops, relevant)
  • Space
