Trans & Gender Diverse Youth Inclusive Practice Training: 9.30am - 12.30pm La Trobe Uni, Shepparton

This training aims to develop individual practitioner and organisational
capacity to provide accessible and inclusive services for young trans and
gender diverse Victorians. The session provides opportunities for
participants to learn about a range of different topics, including;
-trans and gender diverse identities;
-inclusive language;
-experiences and impacts of discrimination;gender affirmation and healthcare pathways;
-rights and responsibilities; and
-service access and inclusive practice initiatives.

Arrive at 9am for registration for a 9:30am start.
Tea/coffee/morning tea provided plus a FREE healthy lunch/networking until 1:30pm.

The Zoe Belle Gender Collective Youth Project, Rainbow Network, WayOut
Macedon Ranges and Kildonan UnitingCare are strategic partners under the Victorian State Governments funding to support same sex attracted, intersex and gender diverse young Victorians as part of the Healthy Equal Youth (HEY) Project.

THRIVE: Connecting ATSI & CALD LGBTI Communities: 1.30pm - 3.30pm La Trobe Uni, Shepparton

This forum aims to increase the capacity of workers within the sector to
engage ATSI and CALD LGBTI communities and will provide opportunities for participants to learn about & contribute to a range of different
topics/discussions, including:
– hear ATSI and CALD LGBTI community members personal stories/inclusive practice strategies;
– gain knowledge about Hume Region ATSI and CALD LGBTI communities and their needs – a local context;
– launch the Hume Region advisory group, “THRIVE” -
connecting/supporting ATSI and CALD LGBTI communities/individuals of all ages.

GUEST SPEAKERS TO INCLUDE:
Ro Allen - Ro Allen has been appointed Victoria’s first Gender and
Sexuality Commissioner, Minister for Equality Martin Foley announced early last year. The Commissioner champions the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse and intersex (LGBTI) Victorians within the Government. Ms Allen is an effective, experienced and longstanding advocate for LGBTI Victorians and has held leadership positions in the community and government sectors. Ms Allen has been a member of three Victorian Government LGBTI ministerial advisory groups and chaired the ministerial advisory committee on LGBTI Health and Wellbeing between 2007 and 2009. As founding CEO of UnitingCare Cutting Edge, Ms Allen established Victoria’s first rural support group for young LGBTI people, giving her a particular understanding of the issues faced in rural and regional areas. Ms Allen currently chairs the Adult, Community and Further Education Board and is a former Chair of the Victorian Skills Commission, the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria (YACVIC), and former member of the Hume Regional Development Australia Committee. Ms Allen has been recognised for her community service: in 2003 she received a Centenary Medal and in 2009 she was inducted into the Victorian Government Honour Roll for Women.

Peter Waples-Crowe- Peter Waples-Crowe is a Ngarigo fella. He is an artist and a current arts worker with Indigenous post-release prisoners for the Torch. He also has I long history of working in Indigenous health and
wellbeing, and has always been a GLBTIQ advocate in the Aboriginal Community in Victoria and beyond. He is a cisgendered gay queer Koori.
Imam Nur Warsame – Nur Warsame is an Imam based in Melbourne. He obtained his religious qualifications in Egypt and memorized the Quran in South Africa. He has been active as an Imam in Australia since 2000. He is also the convener of Marhaba, a social support group that focuses on the welfare of LGBTIQ Muslims.

Commissioner at a special dinner celebrating the LGBTI community and allies, hosted by Michael Dalton. The night kicks off at 6.30pm with dinner served from 7.00pm. Followed by a fun & informal Q&A and maybe an impromptu performance before the event finishes at 8.30pm. Ticket price ($30 plus $1.20 booking fees) includes two course meal (main and dessert). Drinks at bar prices. This will be a sell-out event – only 60 tickets available!

KAYE SERA is a much loved singer and queer media personality. One of
Australia’s few drag acts to sing live, Kaye has a strong following for
her cabaret and other stage work. Her quirky cabarets have enjoyed a
continual presence in Melbourne’s festival lineup. The shows include Funky Fraulein, Ladies First, Camping Out and Kabaresque. Kaye is a recipient of a Pride Award for Entertainer of the Year (2001) and a Rainbow Award for Outstanding Media Achievement (2004).

She is a 2001 Green Room Award nominee for Best Cabaret Performer and was honored with a Green Room Award for Contribution to Cabaret in 2011. Kaye Sera is the creation of performer, visual artist and arts advocate, Daren John Pope. Daren’s performance background includes stints with ANTHILL Theatre and La Mama in Melbourne and numerous Queer theatre shows in the UK.
