Proudly presented in collaboration with the Greater Shepparton Women's Charter Advisory Committee (GSWCAC).

They were energetic and committed, and outraged by the tyranny of a system that excluded them from politics and power. What kind of women were the suffragettes? How did their own lives play out against this monumental achievement of winning the vote in 1902 for white women.

Clare Wright, in conversation with Alana Johnson, talks about her latest book "You Daughters of Freedom" telling the story of that victory and of Australia’s role in the subsequent international struggle, bringing to life a time when Australian democracy was the envy of the world and the standard bearer for the progress in a shining new century.

"You Daughters of Freedom" will be available for purchase on the night.
