Animal registration reminder notices sent

Greater Shepparton City Council is reminding all pet owners to pay their registrations for cats and dogs. Residents who still need to pay will shortly receive reminder notices.

Director Corporate Services Chris Teitzel said “keeping your pet’s registration current ensures you can be contacted should your animal find itself off your property so we can make arrangements for its safe return.  It’s also a good time to make sure we have your most up to date address and contact details.”

“Registration fees cover more than just the cost of reuniting lost animals with their owners. The registration fees also help cover the cost of Council services to respond to calls about wandering dogs or dog attacks, or nuisance issues such as barking dogs, control of dangerous breeds, monitoring pet shops and kennels, breeding businesses and our animal shelter”.

“Every dog and cat over the age of three months must be registered. Not only is it the law, but it assists your animal as well,” said Mr Teitzel.

“For those that do not pay the renewal, they risk a fine of $303 for not registering or renewing their animal’s registration.  Reminder notices will reach residences in the coming weeks and then we will then conduct door knocks to work towards compliance,” said Mr Teitzel.

Animal registrations were due on 10 April; residents with recently deceased animals should contact Council to ensure their animal is removed from the database.
