Animal registrations due Wednesday 10 April

Greater Shepparton City Council is reminding residents to register their animals before Wednesday 10 April 2024.

In summary:

  • Animal registrations due by April 10, 2024
  • Mandatory for cats and dogs over three months old
  • Free for pets under six months; costs start from $50 per year for desexed pets
  • Registration fees support services like Animal Shelter, Animal Rangers, and prosecution of offenses

Registrations for cats and dogs over three months of age is a legal requirement and is free for pets under six months of age.

Council’s Director Sustainable Development, Geraldine Christou, said registrations not only help reunite residents with their pets if they get lost, they also help support important services for the community.

“Registration is easy and affordable - costing as little as $50 per year for a desexed pet, with additional discounts for pensioners,” she said.

“Many pet owners don’t know that their registration fees contribute towards the Animal Shelter, Animal Rangers and prosecution of dangerous dogs and animal cruelty offences.”

Identification tags are small and conveniently hang on collars with no discomfort to the dog or cat. Residents with already registered pets would have received a renewal notice in the mail.

If you have an unregistered pet, you can register them on the Council website or by visiting the Customer Service team at Council’s Welsford Street offices.
