Are you a community group or sporting club looking to upgrade facilities or host a local event? Applications for Greater Shepparton City Council’s Community Grants Program are opening next week and you may be eligible to apply for funding.
Applications for Round One of the 2022/2023 program open on Monday 18 July 2022, with a total of six grants open for applications:
The annual Community Grants Program provides opportunities to support and empower locals and community groups to become engaged, connected and take action to support their local community. Each of the grants offer different levels of financial assistance to support community projects and events in a bid to help boost the region’s economy and prosperity.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali encouraged local community groups and organisations to check the program guidelines and if eligible, apply for their share of funding.
“Council is committed to assisting the many local community groups, sporting clubs and service organisations within the region and these grants are just one of the many ways we are trying to help these clubs continue their work,” he said.
“We have seven grants opening for Round One so I encourage people to visit Council’s website to see what funding is available. There might be a grant suited to your community group, small town or sporting club that can help fund an event or community initiative.”
Mooroopna’s Horses For Hope were the recent recipients of a Community Matching Grant. Founder and Program Director Colin Emonson said the funding was used to bring management and administration systems up to date to ensure they could continue operating electronically, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This grant has been transformational really for the organisation, it has been absolutely wonderful what we have been able to do with it. This kind of input from the Council grant has enabled us to set up really well for expansion,” he said.
“This grant has been so important in the development of Horses For Hope and it wasn’t arduous to do, so I’d certainly encourage other community groups and organisations to apply.”
Council are hosting two free Zoom Information Sessions on Wednesday 20 July and Wednesday 17 August for anyone interested in making an application and seeking further information. Each of the sessions will cover eligible community groups and projects, key application dates, grant amounts, how to apply and there will be an opportunity to have your questions answered.

Applications for the Community Grants Program open on Monday 18 July 2022 and close on Monday 29 August 2022. For more information or to apply for one of the grants, visit Council’s Grants and Funding page.
