Management of two local cemeteries will be transferred from Greater Shepparton City Council to a Class A Cemetery Trust from 1 July 2018.
Pine Lodge Cemetery Trust and Kialla West Cemetery Trust will be transferred to Remembrance Parks Central Victoria (RPCV) who is a dedicated Class A Cemetery Trust managing seven other cemeteries in the Central Victoria area.
Both the Pine Lodge and Kialla West Cemetery Trusts agreed at the April Trust Meetings to transfer governance and operations responsibilities to a Class A Cemetery Trust (RPCV). This move will ensure that both cemeteries continue to deliver high quality services meeting community needs well into the future.
Remembrance Parks Central Victoria’s core business is the delivery of cemetery related services and it is in a position to efficiently run a number of sites across Central Victoria and the Goulburn areas. All cemetery trusts in Victoria are bound to comply with the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003, overseen by the Department of Health and Human Services.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Community Kaye Thomson said the transfer of the cemeteries to a dedicated cemetery organisation will create efficiencies and ensure high standards will be maintained. “Council believes there will be efficiencies in another organisation managing operations and governance where cemeteries are their core business,” said Ms Thomson.
“There will be a seamless transition of the Trusts to Remembrance Parks Central Victoria (RPCV) with current reservations and a high standard of management maintained,” she said. “Council will assist RPCV by providing office space and some support for an agreed period of time to ensure community access is similar.”
