At its December Council Meeting, Greater Shepparton City Council appointed a total of 19 community representatives to the Greater Shepparton Women’s Charter and the Greater Shepparton LGBTIQA+ Advisory Committees.
The appointment comes following a call for nominations for both committees earlier this year, with the community representative positions having an important role to play in supporting Council.
The Women’s Charter Advisory Committee aims to support and promote women in leadership roles and all levels of decision-making in the community. It provides advice to Council on matters related to gender equity, representation, leadership, recognition, and wellbeing of individuals identifying as women in Greater Shepparton. The committee also contributes significantly to the development and implementation of the Greater Shepparton Women’s Charter Action Plan.
A total of eight community representatives were appointed at the December Council Meeting for a period of two years, along with three business representatives.
The LGBTIQA+ Advisory Committee provides a platform for advocacy and representation from the LGBTIQA+ community to support and inform future Council directions relating to representation, decision making and inclusive practices. Since its establishment in 2021, the Committee has achieved several positive outcomes including the implementation of the Greater Shepparton LGBTIQA+ Action Plan and partnering on many local Pride events including IDAHOBIT Day, Wear It Purple Day and Pride Month.
A total of 11 community representatives were appointed to the Greater Shepparton LGBTIQA+ Advisory Committee for a period of two years.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, congratulated each of the successful applicants on their appointment.
“Community representatives have an important role to play in Council’s Advisory Committees and we thank each of the successful applicants for their commitment in putting their hand up to join. We would also like to acknowledge and thank the outgoing community representatives for their contribution over the past few years,” he said.
Greater Shepparton Women’s Charter Advisory Committee Councillor Representative, Cr Dinny Adem, said he looked forward to working with the new community representatives.
“The Women’s Charter Advisory Committee play an important role in providing advice to Council on matters relating to participation, leadership, recognition, safety and wellbeing.
